Bianca Rojas-Latraverse, the ex-girlfriend of 2010 WSOP Main Event champion Jonathon Duhamel, will be paroled from a Canadian prison despite her request to serve the entire length of her sentence behind bars.
Rojas-Latraverse, as many will recall, was the apparent ringleader behind the 2011 robbery and beating of Duhamel at his Canada home in which the poker champ's WSOP gold bracelet, a Rolex watch, and over $100,000 in cash was stolen. Most of the bounty, including the bling, was eventually recovered.
What didn't recover was the relationship between the pair that had already ended prior to the robbery. The break-in was apparently the now 22-year-old Rojas-Latraverse's plan to exact revenge on Duhamel for breaking up with her.
Rojas-Latraverse received a 42-month bid behind bars and is nearing completion of two-thirds of the sentence. During a parole hearing, she remorsefully asked to remain imprisoned until her full time was up, believing that doing so would 'reduce the pain' Duhamel experienced from the revengeful attack, the Toronto Sun reported.
The parole board failed to grant the request, with Commissioner Anne-Marie Asselin stating: 'The Corrections and Conditional Release Act stipulates that you will be released under supervision on the prescribed date and remain (free) until your sentence expires.'
Asselin noted that Rojas-Latraverse had a challenging upbringing that included both abandonment and rejection by her parents, as well as sexual abuse. Her criminal behavior was seen as the result of 'emotional immaturity and the lure of easy money.'
At her sentencing hearing last summer, Rojas-Latraverse reportedly showed no remorse for the crime, promptingthe judge to impose what many deemed to be a harsh sentence. The subsequent time behind bars has apparently softened Duhamel's ex-girlfriend, as introspection toward one's miscreant behavior is often wont to do.
Three others who carried out the beating and robbery were also charged. John Clark-Lemay, Anthony Bourque and Andres Valderrama were the alleged cohorts of Rojas-Latraverse.,
